Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has fired back sharply at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of disrespect after repeatedly referring to him as “Soprano.”
Speaking during a tense public address, an angry Kindiki warned the DP to stop invoking his name in political attacks, saying he would not tolerate being belittled.
“Na uachane na mimi. Mimi sio rika yako. Unazunguka hapa ukiniita sijui soprano… ukitaka nitakuvua nguo!” Kindiki said, drawing gasps and murmurs from the crowd.
The Interior CS hinted that Gachagua’s mockery was part of a broader political intimidation within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, but insisted he would not be dragged into petty politics or public humiliation. Kindiki emphasized that he has a national security mandate and would not entertain disrespect from anyone, regardless of rank.
Political analysts say the clash signals deepening cracks inside President William Ruto’s administration, where internal rivalry has intensified in recent months. Gachagua has been on a collision course with several senior government officials as power struggles continue to shape the 2027 political landscape.
Despite the escalating drama, Kindiki maintained that he will stay focused on his work but warned that he is ready to confront anyone who crosses the line.
The war of words has sparked widespread reactions online, with Kenyans expressing shock at the level of hostility between two top government figures who were once seen as close allies.
