A peaceful Sunday at Syokimau turned tragic after two adults lost their lives in a swimming pool accident at Sunpark Residences.
According to estate officials, the incident began when a day security guard entered the pool area without permission and, lacking swimming skills, started to struggle in the water. Another staff member – a cleaner who rushed to help – also did not know how to swim and tragically drowned while attempting the rescue.
Neighbours and residents watched in shock as several attempts were made to revive the two men. Bystanders tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and called for emergency help, but sadly both victims could not be revived.
In response to the tragedy, estate management announced that the swimming pool will be closed indefinitely. They stated that the facility will remain shut until safety measures — including training and proper safety checks — are fully reviewed and implemented.
The incident has prompted residents to call for better water safety awareness and emergency preparedness, including swimming training and potentially having trained lifeguards at such facilities.
