Surprise Grips Woman as She Retrieves 800,000 Kenyan Shillings from the Bank, Only to Unearth Counterfeit Bills Upon Returning Home
A member of the online community known as Legendary Papi, hailing from Nigeria, recently voiced a series of complaints against a local bank, alleging that they had dispensed counterfeit currency to him.
In his recount, he detailed a visit to one of the bank’s branches where he sought to withdraw 4.2 million Naira, equivalent to 800,000 Kenyan Shillings. However, upon his return home, an unsettling discovery awaited him – all the money he had retrieved turned out to be counterfeit. His intended purpose for these funds was to cover his child’s school fees, making the situation all the more distressing.
The individual elaborated on the chain of events that led to this unfortunate outcome. He disclosed that he had initially deposited 5000 Euros, a foreign currency, at the same bank branch. To exchange this into Nigerian Naira, he was directed to the bank’s main branch. There, he was handed a stack of notes that he later realized were entirely fake.
His frustration was palpable as he shared his experience, saying, “Nigeria has let me down greatly. I pen this with a heavy heart. On January 24, 2023, I made a 5000 Euro deposit into my home account at @Sterling_Bankng, situated on No. 9 Alikilu Road Kaduna branch in Nigeria. Come May 30, 2023, I approached the bank to withdraw the 5000 Euros. However, they informed me that they couldn’t provide the full amount and suggested I take 3000 Euros and proceed to their main branch for the remainder. I declined as they intended to levy extra charges for this fragmented withdrawal.”
Continuing his narrative, he recounted, “Subsequently, I visited the main branch with the intention of withdrawing the complete 5000 Euros. My plan was to pass it on to a friend, who was returning to the UK, to assist me in converting it into pounds, a portion of which I needed to pay my school fees. Regrettably, he took it to @eurochangeFX, where the money was confiscated due to its counterfeit nature. I’ve patiently awaited @Sterling_Bankng to address this issue and return my hard-earned money, but they have been evading my inquiries,” he concluded, expressing his grievances.
