The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan officer serving in the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
According to NPS, the tragic incident happened on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at around 5:00 p.m. Haitian time (2:00 a.m. Monday in Kenya) along the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area. The officer was on a recovery operation with two MaxxPro vehicles when the crash occurred.
The accident also claimed the lives of two civilians and left eight MSS officers injured. Three of the injured are reported to be in critical condition and are receiving treatment in hospital.
NPS confirmed the fallen officer’s family had already been notified, assuring them of full support during the difficult time.
The mission, working closely with the Haitian National Police, is making arrangements to repatriate the officer’s body to Kenya. Meanwhile, the injured officers remain under medical care.
Despite the tragedy, the NPS emphasized that Kenya remains committed to the Haiti peace mission and will continue supporting international efforts to restore stability in the Caribbean nation.
