Tundu Lissu Speaks from Prison: “I Will Not Talk to Dictator Samia”

Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu has spoken defiantly from prison, declaring that he will not hold any talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whom he described as a dictator. Lissu said he is ready to remain behind bars rather than compromise the struggle for freedom and justice in Tanzania.

In a passionate message shared through his legal team, Lissu stated:

“Mimi siwezi nikakaa nikafanya mazungumzo na Dikteta Samia Suluhu. Siku namsihi asifanye mauwaji ya kinyama dhidi ya Watanzania na viongozi wa upinzani, alikausha kichwa kama korosho. Sasa hivi anapambana na Watanzania, wala sio dhidi ya CHADEMA. Mimi nitaendelea kukaa gerezani, maana kuzungumza na Samia itakuwa ni kusaliti wananchi ambao wanapigania uhuru wao. Akitaka mazungumzo, basi afufue wale wote ambao amewauwa kikatili.”

Lissu’s remarks have sparked widespread reactions across the country, with his supporters praising his boldness and commitment to democratic ideals. Many have described him as a symbol of resistance and courage, even under harsh conditions of detention.

The opposition leader maintained that the current political battle in Tanzania is not between the ruling party and the opposition, but between the government and the people seeking justice and freedom.

“Sasa hivi anapambana na Watanzania, wala sio dhidi ya CHADEMA,” he said, emphasizing that the struggle has now become a national movement for liberation.

As tensions continue to mount in the country, Lissu’s defiance has reignited calls for accountability, justice, and respect for human rights. His message serves as a reminder of the resilience of Tanzania’s opposition and the growing public demand for change.
