Emotions ran high during the burial of Albert Ojwang, the young man whose controversial death in police custody has sparked nationwide outrage.
Laid to rest at his father’s home in Homa Bay County, the late blogger’s funeral turned into a moving testimony of pain, betrayal, and injustice led by none other than his grieving mother.
Eucabeth Ojwang broke down as she recounted the years of sacrifice she made to educate her son.
From selling charcoal to working as a housemaid, she did everything possible to ensure Albert had a better future.
Her tearful confession revealed that at one point, she was even involved in a road accident while hustling to raise school fees.
But her most shocking revelation came when she accused someone from their own village of guiding DCI officers to their home before Albert’s arrest.
“No one from Nairobi even knew about my son. Whoever brought them was one of us,” she stated bitterly, hinting at betrayal from within the community.
Albert died on June 10 under unclear circumstances at the Nairobi Central Police Station. Initial police reports claimed he hit his head on a cell wall, a version later contradicted by CCTV footage and changing statements from authorities.
His death has since fueled protests, particularly among Gen Z, who continue to demand justice.
Through tears, Eucabeth wished she had died in her son’s place, vowing that Albert’s spirit would not rest until justice is served. “They should have taken me instead,” she cried.
The family’s pain, now tied with growing public anger, continues to pressure authorities for a full and transparent investigation.
