The body of 24-year-old activist Ibrahim Mwiti, who disappeared in November 2024 under mysterious circumstances, was discovered at the Thika Level Five Hospital mortuary.
His remains were identified seven weeks after his disappearance, a period marked by uncertainty and anguish for his family.
Mwiti, a delivery worker known for his activism on social media, was last seen in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) in November 2024. After he went missing, his family launched an extensive search, eventually locating his body roughly 45 kilometers from where he was last seen.
“We were informed that his case was a hit-and-run incident. Beyond that, we have no further details about his death,” his mother, Sadhiya Iman, told reporters. “We urge the authorities to help us uncover the truth surrounding my son’s demise,” she added.
According to a police report from the mortuary, Mwiti had allegedly been the victim of a hit-and-run accident. However, his family expressed doubts about this explanation, describing it as improbable.
The family’s relentless search for answers stretched on for weeks, only to end in heartbreak when they found Mwiti’s body at the mortuary. His death has left them grappling with unanswered questions about the true events leading to his demise.
Mwiti was officially reported missing at Kamukunji Police Station on November 15, 2024, under OB number 80A/13/11/24. The family had hoped that the police would assist in solving the mystery, but their efforts yielded little clarity.
On Friday, January 3, 2025, Mwiti was laid to rest at Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi, following Islamic burial traditions.
This tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for the government to address the growing cases of forced disappearances and abductions across the country.
