A family in Kitui County is mourning the sudden death of their loved one whose wedding plans turned into funeral arrangements within hours.
Jackline Kasau, a 42-year-old teacher at St. Mary’s Kinyambu Girls’ Secondary School, died in a road accident in Makueni County on the night of August 9, 2025, just a week before her wedding.
She was returning home from her dowry ceremony in Kitui when tragedy struck.
The crash occurred at about 11 p.m. along the Kibwezi-Kitui Road.
Jackline was travelling with her 10-year-old daughter, her future mother-in-law from Kibwezi, and a neighbor.
All four lost their lives in the accident.
Video footage from the previous day’s celebration showed Jackline dancing and smiling, unaware that it would be her last joyful moment.
Her big day was set for Saturday, August 16.
Her younger sister, Jacinta Kilonzo, said that Jackline had been like a mother to her and had cared for her during her school years, making it very hard to come to terms with her death.
She added that WhatsApp groups initially created for wedding plans had now been converted into burial arrangement forums.
Police reported that the vehicle appeared to have been speeding before the driver lost control, causing it to roll.
Two survivors were taken to Kibwezi AMREF Hospital, where one died from injuries.
The other, a cousin to Jackline’s fiancé, sustained minor injuries and was discharged.
The family described Jackline as a loving and dependable figure whose absence will leave a deep void in their lives.
