Area police have cautioned residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals connected to the Sect or crime.
Speaking during a security meeting in Kigumo, Murang’a County Police Commander, Donatha Kiplagat said that they have received intelligence information that the group has already regrouped.
“We have the challenge of youths joining the outlawed Mungiki group, which has started regrouping. We want to warn them that we are aware and will thwart their mission and take serious action against those involved” Kiplagat noted.
Ahadi Trust Kenya Director, Stanley Kamau, who was also in attendance praised the Nyumba Kumi Initiative stating that they have done a good job in securing areas all around the county.
Notably, the Mungiki Sect came to be in 1980s and was characterized in opposing Westernized forms.
It was however outlawed in the year 2002 following the death of more than 50 Kenyans as they tried to take over the matatu sector.
