Paul Njoroge: From 288 KCPE marks in KCPE to A Plain in KCSE while in day school

Paul Njoroge’s journey to success during the 2024 KCSE examinations is nothing short of inspiring, as he triumphed over seemingly insurmountable challenges. In 2016, Njoroge scored 288 marks out of a possible 500 in his KCPE at Gacharage Primary School. Fast forward eight years, and he defied the odds by achieving an outstanding grade of A Plain with 84 points in the 2024 KCSE exams.

After his KCPE, Njoroge faced a major setback when his family struggled to raise school fees, forcing him to stay home for a year. Eventually, he enrolled at Muhoho High School but was forced to drop out while in Form Two due to continuing financial constraints. During this time, Njoroge assumed the responsibility of caring for his mother, who was battling cancer. Sadly, she passed away, but her death marked a turning point in his life.

At her funeral, the deputy principal of Kangui Day Secondary School in Murang’a encouraged him to return to his studies. Heeded by this advice, Njoroge re-enrolled in 2022 at Kangui, picking up from where he had left off in Form Two. However, financial struggles continued to plague him, and in his third year, he was sent home once again due to unpaid fees. He spent nearly an entire term at home, uncertain of his future.

Recognizing his potential and determination, the administration and teachers at Kangui made a selfless decision to support him. They allowed him to study for free and even converted an unused kitchen into a small room where he could live, alleviating the financial burden on his father.

Their sacrifices have borne fruit, as Njoroge’s resilience has propelled him to the top of his class—not only in Murang’a County but also nationally. With plans to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Nairobi, Njoroge remains hopeful despite the daunting fees. He prays that well-wishers will step in to help make his dream a reality.
