Pastor NG’ANG’A Cries after losing Ksh 630,000 to fraudsters and accuses rogue Safaricom employees

Controversial city preacher James Maina Ng’ang’a, the leader of Neno Evangelism Church, recently encountered a troubling situation involving fraudsters utilizing sim swap techniques to exploit unsuspecting individuals in Kenya.

Addressing his congregation, the charismatic televangelist shared the distressing account of how these fraudsters managed to deplete funds from his SIM cards, which were registered under various church entities for the purpose of collecting offerings.

The initial incident unfolded when an unidentified individual visited Safaricom’s regional customer care outlet in Nakuru. During this visit, they executed a sim card swap for the first line registered under James Ng’ang’a, subsequently withdrawing an amount exceeding Ksh 200,000.

Recounting the experience, Ng’ang’a mentioned, “The Jerusalem church contacted me, reporting issues with the phone. In an effort to resolve the matter, I volunteered to visit the service provider’s office. However, the sim card registered for this specific church also ceased to function.”

Upon seeking assistance from customer care, the pastor was informed that the numbers for the two registered lines had been swapped by someone within a span of two days at the same Nakuru shop. The financial toll amounted to Ksh 630,000 in total.

Expressing his disappointment, Ng’ang’a attributed the sim swap fraud to the failure of the attendant to verify National Identification (IDs) cards during such transactions. He emphasized the need for heightened security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
