South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro has stirred controversy after launching a sharp attack on former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, accusing him of making no meaningful contribution to national politics.
Speaking during a political gathering, Osoro dismissed Matiang’i’s influence, claiming the former CS has never actively participated in presidential campaigns despite being perceived as a powerful figure in past administrations.
Osoro went further, mocking Matiang’i’s presence at political events.
“I have never seen Matiang’i doing presidential campaigns. All he does is attend rallies, eat five plates of food, and sleep,” Osoro said, triggering laughter from the crowd.
The remarks have since sparked reactions online, with some Kenyans accusing Osoro of being disrespectful while others supported his blunt criticism. Analysts note that the rivalry between the two leaders has been simmering, especially due to their competing political interests in the Gusii region.
Matiang’i, who has largely kept a low profile since leaving office, has not responded to Osoro’s latest remarks.
Political watchers say Osoro’s attack may reignite old tensions within the region’s leadership, especially as positioning for the 2027 elections intensifies.
