Stephen Otieno Adera, popularly known as Steve Simple Boy, recently shared a remarkable experience in which he claimed to have briefly died during a severe illness before being revived.
In a candid interview with YouTuber Trudy Kitui, the rapper recounted the miraculous incident after Trudy inquired about the potential impact of his upbringing on his mental health. Responding to questions that had been posed by Trudy’s followers, she sought direct insights from Simple Boy himself.
“Wanaulizanga comment section, naona watu wanauliza ata wengine wanasema ‘Trudy ushawai ulize Stevo hii swali?’ nasahau saa leo nimekumbuka. Labda ile environment ulikua unaishi ukiwa mdogo ama ukigrow up iliaffect mental issue yako?” Trudy asked Simple Boy.
The rapper shared that during his childhood, he fell seriously ill and experienced death before being miraculously brought back to life by the grace of God.
“Ok, jambo la kwanza mimi nikiwa mtoto mdogo nilikua nimegonjeka sana sana hadi nikafariki. Hadi nkafariki by the way. Kupitia neema zake Mungu akanirejeshea uhai tena,” he explained.
Simple Boy went on to reveal that his mother took him to the hospital where, despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead. It was only through the presence of God, he acknowledged, that he was revived.
“Mama yangu mzazi alikua amenipeleka hospitali sasa akagive up wakasema ah ah huyu ameshaenda. So nkadungwa mashindano, nkapatiwa madawa hazikua zinafanya kazi. Yani ile kupitia uwepo wa Mungu nkarudi back,” he recounted.
The phenomenon of returning to life after death is scientifically termed Lazarus Syndrome, which involves the spontaneous restoration of blood circulation after the heart stops beating, despite failed attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
When questioned by Trudy about the potential impact of his resurrection on his mental health, Simple Boy concurred, stating, “So from there that is how you got maybe affected [mental health] ama kuna pia after there kuna vile tena life ilikua…? Trudy asked. “Ni hio tu nilikua affected na hio,” Stevo Simple Boy responded.
Early Life:
Stevo Simple Boy’s early life was characterized by extreme poverty, and he continued to grapple with financial challenges even after achieving celebrity status. Born and raised in dire circumstances, the rapper found himself among the nine Kenyan celebrities who faced financial difficulties in 2023.
In a 2022 interview with Diana Marua, Simple Boy disclosed that he struggled as a slow learner during his schooling years. He attended school in Homa Bay county up to class seven and took the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination in Kibera, Nairobi.
“Nlikua ule mtoto special. Kuna wale watu ambaye hawashiki vitu haraka, nlikua mmoja wao. Nlisoma nursery mbaka class 7 nkarudi Nairobi nkafanya darasa la nane,” he shared.
Despite completing the KCPE, the rapper did not pursue secondary education and instead engaged in various menial jobs to survive in the slums. Simple Boy worked as a construction worker, a security guard, and a waiter in a hotel, earning a daily wage of Ksh100.
