“Nitafanya Nairobi Ikae Singapore “Moses Kuria Declares as He Announces Bid for Nairobi Governorship

Former Presidential Advisor and Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has announced that he will vie for the position of Nairobi County Governor in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for what could be a high-stakes political battle with the incumbent, Johnson Sakaja.

The outspoken former Gatundu South MP made the declaration through his social media pages, saying his decision was inspired by President William Ruto’s recent remarks lamenting the sorry state of the capital city.

“Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the city of filth, garbage and incompetence. I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of the great County of Nairobi in 2027,” Kuria wrote.

Kuria said the President’s public frustration over Nairobi’s deteriorating conditions — marked by uncollected garbage, blocked drainage, and poor urban management — had motivated him to act.

His announcement comes barely hours after President Ruto, while attending a Sunday Service at AIC Ziwani Church, launched a new partnership between the national government and the Nairobi City County to tackle waste management and improve sanitation in the city.

“Nairobi cannot continue to be the city in filth,” Ruto said. “We have already started cleaning the Nairobi River, and now all estates are in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector on how we are going to clean this city. It cannot continue the way it is.”

The Head of State also revealed that his administration will allocate resources to upgrade Nairobi’s infrastructure, including roads, lighting, and drainage systems, to make the capital clean, safe, and accessible.

“We must not have mud along our roads. This city will have streetlights so that Nairobi becomes a city of light, not darkness,” Ruto affirmed.

Kuria, who currently serves as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, has vowed to align his gubernatorial campaign with the President’s vision for a modern, efficient, and corruption-free Nairobi.

If elected, he promised to “fix Nairobi” by introducing sustainable waste management systems, restoring discipline in public service delivery, and ensuring value for every shilling collected from city residents.

His entry into the 2027 race adds fresh heat to Nairobi’s political scene, with analysts predicting a bruising contest against Governor Sakaja, who has also signaled his intention to seek re-election.
