The heartbreaking story of a Kenyan woman named Maureen has left many shocked after she narrated how her husband nearly killed her simply because she chose to move to the city in search of a better life.
Born into a humble family, Maureen had a difficult upbringing that denied her the opportunity to pursue education. As the firstborn, she took on many responsibilities early in life and eventually got married at just 15 years old. She hoped for love and stability, but her marriage turned into a nightmare.
Maureen and her husband were blessed with four children. When life became tough, she made the bold decision to relocate to Nairobi to find work and support her family. However, her husband took the move as betrayal and insecurity consumed him.
Barely a week after Maureen left, she learned that her husband had brought home another woman as a co-wife. Shocked and heartbroken, she returned home to confirm — only to walk into a deadly trap.
According to Maureen, her husband and the new wife had conspired to end her life, accusing her of abandoning her marriage and suspecting she might be seeing other men in the city. When she confronted them, her husband attacked her with a machete, chopping her face and gouging out one of her eyes, before cutting off several fingers.
Believing she was dead, he turned himself in to the police. But miraculously, Maureen survived after doctors fought to save her life. Though left permanently scarred, she has refused to give up.
Now working as a cleaner in a hotel, Maureen also owns a motorbike she bought with the help of a kind well-wisher. Despite everything, she remains hopeful, saying she draws strength from her four children and believes that one day, her life will turn around.
