Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday hosted a delegation of Nyandarua Members of County Assembly at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, in a visit framed as a show of solidarity following a recent violent incident on Sunday targeting him.
The MCAs said they had travelled to personally check on Gachagua’s condition and to express concern over what they described as a dangerous escalation of political hostility. The leaders condemned the attack, arguing that it reflected a worrying breakdown in respect for the rule of law and the safety of public figures outside formal state protection.
Gachagua used the meeting to recount the circumstances surrounding the incident, describing it as a coordinated operation involving heavily armed police officers. He maintained that the attack was neither accidental nor spontaneous, but part of a broader pattern of intimidation aimed at silencing dissenting political voices. According to him, such actions risk normalising violence in national politics and eroding public confidence in security institutions.
The former deputy president thanked the Nyandarua MCAs for their visit, noting that their gesture carried symbolic weight at a time when political leaders faced increasing threats. He urged elected representatives to remain firm in defending constitutional freedoms, warning that fear should not be allowed to shape political engagement or leadership choices.
The visiting MCAs echoed these sentiments, calling for an independent investigation into the incident and accountability for those responsible. They argued that selective application of the law undermines democracy and fuels public anger, particularly when security agencies are perceived to act on political instructions rather than legal mandates.
The visit comes amid heightened political tension in the Mount Kenya region, where divisions over national leadership and succession continue to sharpen.
