The owner of a Nissan matatu, registration number KDR 467X, is under the spotlight following explosive claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding a violent incident at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County.
Gachagua alleged that the vehicle, reportedly belonging to Namu Shuttle, was used to ferry around 15 rogue police officers armed with AK-47 rifles and teargas canisters to the church, where he and his allies had gathered for prayers.
According to the former DP, the attackers, allegedly under the command of bodyguards linked to a prominent Murang’a politician, stormed the church compound, injuring several worshippers, including women and children. He further claimed that one of his vehicles was torched and tyres of congregants’ cars were deflated.
“The goons who came were in a Nissan matatu KDR 467X. They had guns, and we have collected cartridges from 7.62mm AK-47 rifles. They came to kill,” Gachagua stated, insisting the attack was premeditated and targeted.
Gachagua also dismissed assurances from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen that the government would investigate, claiming the attackers used official police vehicles, including one with a government registration number. He questioned why officers from the nearby Othaya Police Post, located just 200 metres away, did not intervene during the 40-minute ordeal.
In a dramatic revelation, Gachagua said his bodyguard had been specifically targeted for assassination but was saved by clergy members who disguised him in church robes, allowing him to escape unnoticed.
Following the incident, Gachagua cancelled planned rallies in Othaya and Kiawara, alleging that the attack aimed to eliminate him.
As investigations continue, attention is now focused on the owner of the Nissan matatu allegedly used in the attack, who could face serious legal consequences if the claims are substantiated.
