After experiencing the loud and bustling nightclubs in Nairobi, Governor Johnson Sakaja has decided to take action against the equally noisy churches in the city. During a recent interview on Radio Citizen, Sakaja expressed his concern over the noise pollution caused by churches in the capital city.
The governor emphasized that he will not allow any business to interfere with the operations or peace of residents in the city. He stated that while they do not plan to harm any business, they ask for mutual consideration.
Sakaja highlighted that some churches have installed sound systems that blast loud music towards the general population, even if there are only a few congregants inside. To address this issue, the Nairobi County Government has put measures in place to reduce noise pollution, and the governor promised to ensure it is completely dealt with.
Additionally, the crackdown on noisy bars and clubs will continue, with the governor mentioning a club located near a mental hospital that blasts loud music all night, hindering patients from recovering from alcohol abuse.
Sakaja stressed the need to close down such noisy churches, acknowledging that it may not be a popular decision but necessary for creating a city of order and dignity. On December 2, 2022, he stated that he would revisit the issue of closing down noisy churches and engage relevant stakeholders before banning night church services. He urged churches and mosques to be considerate and promised to discuss the matter with them.
In conclusion, Governor Johnson Sakaja is determined to make Nairobi a city that every person admires, by putting measures in place to ensure order and dignity.
