A Nairobi man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of defiling his 13-year-old daughter, in a case that has left the public shocked and outraged.
The 36-year-old was convicted at the Kibera Law Courts, where Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul delivered a harsh ruling, saying his actions represented a total collapse of parental responsibility.
In addition to the life sentence, the man received a further five years for cruelty after evidence showed he physically assaulted the girl using a knife and even pinched her ears with pegs. The sentence, however, will run concurrently.
According to court documents, the girl was rescued and placed in a children’s home after her ordeal. It was there that she bravely confided in a social worker about the abuse she had endured.
Her testimony, backed by medical records and witness statements, sealed the prosecution’s case. Magistrate Abdul praised the prosecution team, saying the evidence presented left no room for doubt.
Children’s rights advocates have welcomed the ruling, saying it sends a strong message that crimes against minors will be punished with the full weight of the law.
The young girl remains in protective care as she begins her journey of healing.
