Detectives have released new details surrounding the death of Evans Mwaura Githua, the chief executive officer of Nairobi-based IT firm Com Twenty One Limited, whose death is being treated as suspected suicide.
Investigations established that Githua consumed a Bacardi alcoholic drink before his death.
Officers who examined the scene recovered an empty bottle of the alcoholic drink alongside several personal items that formed part of the ongoing inquiry.
Githua, aged fifty-one, is believed to have jumped from the 14th floor of a short-stay apartment along Kasuku Road in Nairobi.
His body was discovered on the afternoon of December 23 behind Alba Apartments.
Police findings indicated that he had earlier injured himself by cutting veins on both wrists while alone inside the room.
The body was found naked and bore multiple injuries, including a broken right leg, head injuries and deep cuts on the wrists consistent with the use of a sharp object.
Officers forced entry into the room after it was found locked from inside.
A large pool of blood was observed across the bedsitter, washroom and wardrobes, pointing to severe blood loss before the fall.
Recovered items included clothes, two mobile phones switched to flight mode, a wallet, xylocaine spray, a scalpel, a fork with residue, lemon water mixed with a yellowish substance, two tablets, an empty energy drink can, flasks containing liquid and paste and a bag with personal effects.
Records showed that Githua checked into the apartment alone on December twenty-two at night.
Family members reported concern after failing to reach him, as his phones were offline.
Police concluded that death resulted from self-inflicted injuries followed by a fall from the building.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem examination as investigations continue.
