A dramatic scene unfolded in Mombasa after a woman chased away a man she was meeting for the very first time because he only brought green groceries to her house.
According to witnesses, the man had shown up confidently carrying a bag of vegetables, expecting to impress the lady. But instead of feeling appreciated, the woman was left fuming, accusing him of being “too stingy” for not buying even a kilo of meat.
In a heated exchange, the woman made it clear that she could never entertain such gestures from a suitor.
“Hii itabidi utafute binti wa mlima, ndiye mtaezana naye. Hapa hamna zizi la wanyama wa kula hivi vitu ulivyoleta!” she shouted, before throwing him out.
The incident has since sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some people sided with the woman, saying that a man visiting for the first time should carry something more “special” to show seriousness, while others accused her of being materialistic and ungrateful.
One user wrote:
- “Mboga ni health! She should be thankful the man came with something.”
Another commented:
- “First impression matters… how do you walk in with sukuma and expect to be taken seriously?”
The dramatic rejection has turned into a trending topic, with Kenyans debating whether vegetables are a symbol of thoughtfulness or simply a sign of stinginess when making a first impression.
For the unlucky man, it was a day to forget, as he walked away with his bag of groceries, leaving behind a fiery woman who made it clear that in her home, meat comes before love.
