“Mimi ni Mdogo sana” ‎“Niliogopa”: Kisii girl Speaks Out After Throwing her kid Into Toilet

‎Shock and disbelief gripped Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County, when a young mother admitted to throwing her seven-month-old baby into a pit latrine. The incident has stirred sorrow, questions, and calls for better support for vulnerable mothers.

‎What happened

‎The woman, identified as Faith Kwamboka, is a mother of three. Neighbours raised suspicions after noticing unusual behavior around her homestead. Village chairman John Rambo was alerted, and upon confronting her, she openly confessed to the act.
‎Police officers from Keroka and Ramasha stations were called in, and a rescue operation was launched. Fortunately, the infant was retrieved alive, though the baby’s medical condition has not been disclosed.

‎Why she did it

‎Overwhelmed by poverty and the burden of caring for her children, Kwamboka broke down and explained her desperate action, saying only: “Niliogopa” (I was afraid). She described feeling helpless and unable to cope with her situation.

‎Community reaction

‎Chairman Rambo strongly condemned the act, stressing that children must never be treated as disposable. He urged mothers in distress to seek help rather than resort to drastic measures, and appealed to local authorities to ensure the safety of Kwamboka’s remaining children.

‎The shocking case has also ignited debate on social media, with many Kenyans calling for accountability and stronger support systems for struggling mothers.
