A lady who missed admission to the university 14 years ago despite posting good performance has been served a reprive.
Milly Nafula has found a life changing opportunity after landing a full scholarship at Mount Kenya University.
This comes after her story got featured on different media stations starting outrage and sympathy in equivalent measure.
Nafula, regardless of scoring grade A-, failed to join college since, she never got an admission letter.
Talking during the MKU twentieth graduation ceremony. Mt Kenya University chair Prof Simon Gicharu said she has offered Nafula scholarship, including catering for her own expenses.
“I was touched when I saw her story on TV. I asked myself, how can we, as Kenyans, allow her to stay at home for so many years just because she was not admitted to a university.
“I would like to inform this congregation that we will give a scholarship to her. This will enable her to actualise her dream,” Gicharu announced.
Nafula will join the university to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree.
While narrating her story, she uncovered that she had high hopes any desires for becoming a doctor but the defunct Joint Admissions Board (JAB) failed her by denying her an admission letter.
JAB was replaced by Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
“I was also advised to go to Nairobi to ask about the matter, but because I could not afford the fare, I wrote a letter to the board through the District Officer in Kitale in 2009. He sent the letter, but there was no response,” the mother of two explained
