Meet Thayu Kabugi, The Murang’a Billionaire Who Founded Astrol Petroleum Company.

Thayu Kamau Kabugi is a Murang’a billionaire who own one of the most successful oil company in Kenya.

Thayu used to serve as the chairman of the petroleum company until he met his death on 20th February 2019 aged 94 at a Nairobi Hospital.

Thayu was born in Murungu village, Murang’a County and was a close associate of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta but did not exploit the chance or took advantage of their friendship to build himself buf chose to build his vast wealth through sheer hard work.

He was awarded the Elder of the Burning Spear Award (EBS) by president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.

His Astro Petroleum company was founded in 2000 and mainly specialized in supply and distribution of the products in Kenya.

The company has been into existence for over 22 years and has ten filling stations in different parts of the country among them being Murang’a, Runda, Northern Bypass, Thika Road, Mombasa Road, Rironi, Athi River, Ruiru and Utawala.

Thairu’s son, James Mwangi is ci the Managing Director.
