In a delightful twist from their usual Ugali-eating contests, the residents of Bungoma recently organized a unique and entertaining competition centered around chapatis. The event drew laughter, cheer, and a sense of community as locals gathered to witness a showdown of epic proportions.
Unlike previous contests, this particular challenge required participants to consume 25 chapatis, one loaf of bread, one litre of soda, and a full bowl of beans—all within a strict 90-minute window. The competition featured only two participants: a famed local eater from Bungoma and a formidable challenger from Siaya County, both renowned for their remarkable eating capacities.
As the whistle blew to signal the start, the Bungoma contestant quickly took the lead. With a perfect blend of speed, strategy, and stamina, he munched his way through the towering stack of food, ultimately completing the challenge in less than the allotted 90 minutes. His performance left the crowd stunned—and the Siaya contender defeated.
Spectators were in awe, many admitting it was the first time they had seen anyone consume such an enormous quantity of chapatis in such a short time. The event concluded with cheers and calls to action, as residents urged President William Ruto to support future competitions by donating a chapati-making machine to help scale the event.
Indeed, the Chapati-eating competition not only brought fun and excitement to Bungoma but also showcased the region’s growing appetite for creativity, community bonding, and cultural flair.
