Controversial city preacher Pastor James Ng’ang’a has once again found himself at the centre of public attention after clashing with Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris over a viral video allegedly showing him confessing to assaulting a woman years ago.
In a video shared on his social media accounts, Ng’ang’a claimed that he is being unfairly targeted and attacked for no reason, alleging that his growing influence and large following have unsettled some politicians.
Ng’ang’a maintained that he has no political platform to air his grievances but vowed to “present his case to God”, whom he believes will deal with his detractors. He accused his critics of maliciously reporting him to Parliament and dragging his name into controversies.
He expressed his frustration, stating that some leaders have even called for his arrest without just cause, warning that divine justice would eventually prevail. Ng’ang’a added that the repeated attacks were a result of envy and resentment over his massive following.
The preacher’s remarks came shortly after Esther Passaris called for his immediate arrest following the circulation of an undated video in which Ng’ang’a appears to admit to being part of an eight-man gang that assaulted a woman.
In the viral clip, the pastor is heard saying, “We assaulted one woman while we were eight people. We did it,” while addressing his congregation — a statement that has since sparked outrage among Kenyans.
In a statement posted on her official X account, the lawmaker urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct a thorough probe to determine whether the clip is genuine or manipulated.
Passaris insisted that if the footage is confirmed to be real, then Ng’ang’a should be arrested and charged, terming it a criminal confession rather than a sermon. She further challenged the pastor to surrender himself to the nearest police station and disclose the names of his alleged accomplices.
The unfolding controversy has ignited a heated debate online, with Kenyans divided over whether the video is authentic or another case of AI misinformation. Meanwhile, Pastor Ng’ang’a maintains that he is innocent and that those attacking him will face God’s judgment.
