Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has vowed to continue traveling across the country to assist vulnerable groups and churches with development initiatives, despite recent criticism.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently questioned the source of funds for some Rift Valley leaders, who have been seen distributing cash while traveling in helicopters. Although Gachagua did not name anyone specifically, he urged MPs to focus on their constituencies instead of engaging in political tours.
“Where are these resources coming from for politicking, when Kenyans are suffering? Choppers are being hired left, right, and center. Millions of shillings are being dished out while Kenyans are suffering,” Gachagua stated during a fundraiser in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, on Saturday, May 25, 2024. “I urge MPs to stay in their constituencies and serve their people. The habit of political tourism must stop. This is what is causing us trouble,” he added.
In response, Sudi stated he would not be intimidated into stopping his travels to aid churches. He mentioned learning this practice from President William Ruto and emphasized that the success of the Kenya Kwanza government came from not confining themselves to their constituencies.
“Yesterday, I saw many leaders in Kesses saying someone is causing a rift here and there. If you say Sudi should not leave his constituency while you are in another constituency with about 30 MPs, isn’t that a contradiction?” Sudi remarked without mentioning names.
He continued, “All those who were in Kesses used helicopters when we were in the opposition and traveled across Kenya until they became known and attained the positions they have now. If you don’t want to travel, stay at home. Find someone else to intimidate; I overcame intimidation a long time ago.”
Sudi made these remarks during a fundraiser at AIC Kipkorgot Church, where he defended his financial sources, stressing that he was not in a position of power when he entered politics.
Meanwhile, Sudi reiterated his support for President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua, referring to them as the Kenya Kwanza candidates for 2027.
