Lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has strongly criticized the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over reports that the party allegedly barred Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from visiting Bondo to mourn the late Raila Odinga.
In a bold statement, Miguna dismissed the claims as “stupid”, accusing ODM leaders of hypocrisy and intolerance. He said every Kenyan, including Gachagua, has the constitutional right to move freely and visit any part of the country without seeking permission from any political faction.
“It is stupid for ODM to claim that they have banned Rigathi from Bondo or Nyanza. They are not better than Kahiga of Nyeri,” Miguna stated.
The outspoken lawyer argued that such behavior undermines national unity and exposes ODM’s double standards. He added that Kenya belongs to all citizens, regardless of political or ethnic affiliation, and no group should attempt to dictate who can visit where.
Miguna further called on leaders to embrace tolerance and maturity, especially during a period of national mourning. He noted that politicizing Raila Odinga’s death or using it to score partisan points was disrespectful to his legacy.
His remarks have stirred heated reactions online, with some Kenyans applauding him for speaking the truth, while others accused him of using the sensitive moment to attack ODM.
Miguna, a long-time critic of ODM leadership, has remained vocal on issues of governance, democracy, and freedom of expression—often challenging political figures from across the divide.
