“I’m very proud of impeaching Gachagua, many Kenyans are happy he is no longer Deputy President”-Mutuse

Makueni MP Joshua Mutuse has expressed pride in the recent impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, claiming that the decision reflects the will of the people. Speaking to the media, Mutuse said that many Kenyans had lost confidence in Gachagua’s leadership and were relieved to see him removed from office.

“I’m very proud of impeaching Gachagua. Many Kenyans are happy he is no longer Deputy President,” Mutuse declared confidently. He described the move as a bold step toward restoring accountability and integrity in government, saying that public office should be held by leaders who respect the Constitution and serve all citizens equally.

According to Mutuse, the impeachment was not politically motivated but rather a response to growing dissatisfaction over Gachagua’s conduct and divisive statements. He noted that leaders must always remember that power belongs to the people, and once citizens lose trust in their leadership, Parliament has a duty to act.

The legislator further urged other leaders to treat the impeachment as a lesson, emphasizing that no one is above the law. “When Kenyans lose faith in a leader, Parliament must listen to their voice. That is what democracy is all about,” he added.

Mutuse’s statement has triggered mixed reactions across the political divide. Supporters praised him for standing firm, saying the impeachment marked a victory for accountability, while others accused Parliament of playing politics instead of focusing on service delivery.

Still, Mutuse maintained that history would vindicate Parliament’s decision, insisting that Gachagua’s removal was necessary to protect the dignity of the office of the Deputy President and to restore public trust in government institutions.
