Some hours ago Simon Kibe aired a story of a Kenyan man serving 35 years in prison for a crime he openly admits committing. His name is Michael Muchiri, from Murang’a County, who was sentenced in prison at the age of 22. Having already served five years, he is expected to complete his sentence in 2040.
Before committing the crime, Muchiri was involved in the sale of marijuana and alcohol, which he also consumed heavily. His father strongly opposed his business, and frequent disagreements between them led to constant tension at home.
One day, Muchiri returned home to find his father physically assaulting his mother. Enraged and overwhelmed by anger, he resolved to confront his father the next time he found him alone. Days later, he acted on that decision striking his father on the head with a log before fleeing the scene.
Five days later, police officers arrested him in Nairobi and took him to the police station. When his case went to court, Muchiri chose to plead guilty, saying he did not want to face his family during the trial. He was consequently sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Speaking from prison, Muchiri expressed deep remorse for his actions, saying he has never found peace since the incident. He pleaded with his family to forgive him, admitting that he made a terrible mistake that cost him his freedom and his father’s life.
