Controversial political commentator Maverick Aoko has broken her silence following Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino’s public denial of allegations linking him to attacks against the Odinga family. Her response has further intensified an already heated online exchange, drawing widespread attention and sparking debate across social media platforms.
In a strongly worded statement, Aoko claimed she possesses what she described as “even deeper intel” regarding the unfolding controversy. She accused Babu Owino of attempting to silence and “gag” her, warning that such efforts would not deter her from speaking out. In an emotional appeal, Aoko also asked for public protection, revealing for the first time that she is pregnant—a disclosure that added a deeply personal dimension to the political dispute.
According to Aoko, the controversy extends beyond individual disagreements and reflects broader, unresolved political and generational tensions within the Luo community. She argued that difficult conversations are long overdue, calling for honest internal reflection rather than public denials or suppression of dissenting voices.
“We need painful conversations once and for all,” she said, suggesting that the situation touches on deeper political dynamics rather than isolated personal conflicts.
Her remarks came shortly after Babu Owino publicly distanced himself from claims that he was using Aoko as a proxy to attack members of the Odinga family. In his response, the legislator described Aoko as an independent thinker and a longtime supporter, insisting that he has never instructed her to insult or target the Odingas.
“Aoko is my friend and my fierce supporter, but she is independent-minded. I have never told her to attack the Odinga family,” Owino stated.
The MP further emphasized his close relationship with the Odinga family, naming Winnie Odinga, Raila Odinga Jr., and Rosemary Odinga as personal friends. He also spoke warmly of Mama Ida Odinga, describing her as a maternal figure who has treated him with kindness and respect over the years.
“I can never insult such a mum. She’s been good to me, and I love her,” he said.
The public exchange has ignited intense debate online, with Kenyans divided over issues of political loyalty, freedom of expression, influence within political circles, and the safety of outspoken commentators. Aoko’s emotional plea, combined with her pregnancy revelation, has amplified concerns about the personal risks faced by vocal political voices in a highly polarized environment.
As the debate continues to unfold, the standoff between Maverick Aoko and Babu Owino has become a broader reflection of Kenya’s charged political discourse—where personal relationships, political allegiance, and public accountability often collide in the digital public square.
