Govt Releases Sh4 Billion to Fund Public Servants’ Medical Cover Under SHIF

The government has disbursed Sh4 billion to the Social Health Authority (SHA) to finance medical cover for public servants under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

The announcement was made by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku, who said the move underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of workers.

Leaders Rally Behind SHA

Speaking during the annual ACK Women’s Union service at ACK St. Peter’s Cathedral, Siakago, Mbeere North, CS Ruku urged Kenyans to embrace SHA, calling it a transformative milestone toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He revealed that about 30,000 Kenyans are registering daily, a sign of growing public confidence in the new health system.

SHA Confirms Receipt of Funds

SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi confirmed that the Authority had received the Sh4 billion allocation.

“This funding ensures that public servants will be fully covered under SHIF, protecting them from the burden of high out-of-pocket medical expenses,” CS Ruku stated.

Push for Universal Health Coverage

The government has been stepping up reforms in the health sector to ensure all Kenyans access affordable and quality healthcare. The launch of SHIF is part of a broader plan to replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and deliver a more inclusive, efficient system
