From Grace to Grass: The Celebrities who went Broke after Making millions

Despite numerous uplifting tales of celebrities overcoming financial hardships and rising from humble beginnings, the reverse is also true.

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, reportedly faced a staggering $400 million debt at the time of his unexpected demise in 2009. Similarly, in 2015, American rapper 50 Cent found himself $32.5 million in debt amidst a lawsuit and unpaid child support, ultimately filing for bankruptcy the following year. Closer to home, there have been instances of well-known personalities, once thriving in their careers, disappearing from the public eye and later reappearing, seeking crowdfunding and support to rebuild their lives, with some adopting a victim mentality.

One such case is Magix Enga, a gifted and controversial music producer known for his remarkable beats. Despite a decade of producing hit songs, Magix Enga, a graduate of Tapev Musical School, has recently experienced an unexpected downturn. Two months ago, the once flashy producer and singer admitted to battling depression and financial constraints, attributing his troubles to artists failing to pay for his services. He claimed to have produced over 10 successful songs for Otile Brown, receiving minimal compensation only for one collaboration with Khaligraph Jones.

Magix Enga’s downfall can also be traced to his controversial publicity stunts, such as claiming to be part of the Illuminati, leading to a decline in collaboration offers and event bookings.

Another example is Director Tiger, also known as Nelson Ominde, a video director who had faded into obscurity until he made headlines in November. Once earning significant income from directing gospel hits, he found himself homeless due to rent arrears. Tiger attributed his career downturn to a shift in focus from projects to relationships around 2016, leading to discomfort among artists he collaborated with.

Omosh Kizangila, known for his wit on the TV program Tahidi High, faced financial struggles that prompted Kenyans to crowdfund for him in 2021.

However, in another viral video this year, Omosh pleaded for financial help again, revealing he had lost everything, including a three-bedroom house gifted to him the previous year. Allegations arose that his mismanagement of funds and struggles with alcoholism contributed to his ongoing financial difficulties.

Weezdom, a former gospel singer and manager for Kevin Bahati, confessed to a challenging 2022 marked by depression, alcohol abuse, and financial problems. His struggles intensified after parting ways with Bahati, exploring various avenues to make money but facing setbacks. Social media pressure to maintain a certain lifestyle added to his woes, leading to a return to drinking and a downward spiral.

Consumator, a comedian from the Churchill Show, made a surprising return in April, revealing financial difficulties and the illness of his father. Previously missing in action since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Consumator shared that he had taken on the role of a caretaker and was struggling financially while dealing with his father’s prostate cancer diagnosis.

In conclusion, these stories of once-successful individuals facing financial hardships highlight the fragile nature of fame and success in the entertainment industry, where circumstances can quickly change, leading to unforeseen challenges.
