WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook had all gone down in a significant blackout.
The three applications – which are owned by Facebook, and run on shared foundation – all totally stopped working at 5pm yesterday. Different products that are part of the application , like Facebook apps, also stopped working.
Visitors to the Facebook site basically saw an error page or a message that their browser couldn’t connect. The WhatsApp and Instagram applications kept on working, but didn’t show new content, including any messages sent or got during the outrage.
Facebook’s blackouts happen rarely however will in general be immense in their effect, not least because they affect three of the world’s biggest apps.
All three platforms stopped working shortly before noon ET.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” a spokesperson said. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
