DP Ruto’s Digital Strategist on Friday, August 13 escaped death by a whisker after an alleged attempt on his life.
Recording a statement at the Kasarani Police Station, Itumbi alleged that he was trailed by unknown individuals who attacked him at Thome area of Kasarani.
He went on to add that a lorry blocked him on the highway along the northern Bypass before another car pulled over.
“A man walked out aiming a gun at him and fired some shots. Itumbi sped from the scene and in the process hit another vehicle that was on the road. He was not arrested. Reports alleging that he was apprehended by the police are false,” Wanjohi Githae, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Communications Director, told a local daily.
Conflicting details have however emerged after a police officer refuted reports that Itumbi survived an assassination attempt.
The officer claimed that Itumbi was arrested by the police at the Garden City Estate in Kasarani.
“I do not have the exact details of the case. All I know is they tracked and apprehended him. He attempted to evade arrest, but the detectives pinned him down,” the source said.
“I cannot confirm whether he was charged or even detained.”
