Disturbing new developments have emerged in the acid attack case involving gospel singer Mary Claire, after CCTV footage reportedly surfaced showing a man linked to the incident داخل the building where she was taken for first aid.
The clips have intensified public concern, raising fresh questions for investigators about how close individuals connected to the attack may have been to the victim during a critical moment.
Mary Claire, 24, a member of Redemption Ministers Kenya, was attacked along Ngong Road while heading home. A suspect identified as Lucas Ochieng’ is accused of pouring acid on her and her friend, leaving both with severe injuries. The victims were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where Mary Claire remains in critical condition.
Witnesses say members of the public pursued and apprehended the suspect as he attempted to escape. During the confrontation, he allegedly claimed he had been sent by the singer’s estranged partner. Bystanders reportedly forced him to play a phone call on speaker, where a caller was heard asking if the “job” had been completed. His phone was later destroyed before police intervened.
The suspect was then taken into custody at Kibera Police Station.
The newly circulated CCTV footage is said to show a man believed to be the victim’s former partner moving within the building where she initially received assistance. This has alarmed supporters and neighbors, who fear it could point to deeper involvement or prior coordination.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the individual seen in the footage or clarified the timeline of events. Investigations remain ongoing, with police reviewing CCTV and other evidence.
Former Mike Sonko has also weighed in on the matter, stating that Mary Claire had previously reported receiving death threats. He has pledged support in pursuing justice and even announced a KSh 50,000 reward for information that could lead to further arrests.
Police say at least one suspect is already in custody, and a broader manhunt is underway as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack.
