Azimio MPs are asserting their intent to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi amidst allegations of fake fertilizer distribution. Spearheaded by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, Antony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache), Catherine Omanyo (Busia woman rep), Caleb Amisi (Saboti), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi), and Gathoni wa Muchomba (Githunguri), they have issued a deadline to President Ruto, demanding Linturi’s removal by Tuesday, April 16. Failure to comply will prompt them to initiate impeachment proceedings.
During a widows’ empowerment event in Khasoko village, Bumula Constituency, on April 14, 024, the MPs accused President Ruto of complicity in the fake fertilizer scandal, alleging his silence amidst farmer suffering.
Wamboka urged President Ruto to take decisive action, dismissing Linturi and addressing the turmoil within the Ministry of Agriculture. Omanyo asserted the President’s awareness of the counterfeit fertilizer issue.
Mwenje questioned the President’s protection of Linturi, citing past dismissals of cabinet secretaries Michael Kamau and Felix Kosgey during the Jubilee Government’s tenure under President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Ruto.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of various issues, including the Linda Mama program and pregnant mothers’ welfare, the MPs demanded the program’s reinstatement and criticized the government’s delay in doing so.
Wamboka affirmed readiness to proceed with an impeachment motion should Linturi remain in office, emphasizing the MPs’ firm stance on the matter.
