A family from Mitaboni, Machakos County, is seeking justice after their loved one was allegedly abducted and murdered by unknown assailants.
Jacob Muthama was taken on the morning of October 16, 2024, while heading to his workplace in Vota, as confirmed by his wife, Mary Mutheu. During the abduction, Muthama suffered severe injuries, which led to his death two weeks later on November 26.
Mutheu stated that her husband endured 24 hours of captivity, during which he was severely hurt. She has called on the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
“We are asking for assistance from both the government and kind-hearted individuals to help us pay the hospital and mortuary bills for my late husband. He has left behind two children, the youngest being just two weeks old,” said Mutheu.
According to Muthama’s brother, Moses Maweu, the family incurred over Ksh 200,000 in medical expenses before his brother’s death. The family is now reaching out for help to settle the outstanding debts.
Maweu further revealed that the family had to sell everything to cover the medical costs. However, the hospital is refusing to release the body for burial until the remaining balance of Ksh 1.4 million is paid. “We are pleading with the national government and Machakos County Hospital to assist us in raising the funds needed to proceed with the burial arrangements,” he said.
In response to the growing number of attacks and abductions in the region, Machakos County woman representative, Joyce Kamene Kisimbi, called on the government to prioritize the security of its citizens. She also urged the national government to expedite the implementation of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), an affordable healthcare program designed to benefit people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
