A 21‑year‑old inmate, Daniel Boakye, who was serving a sentence at HMP Feltham in London, has escaped police custody for a second time in less than a week, triggering a renewed nationwide manhunt. Police confirmed that Boakye fled from custody while being taken to Lewisham Hospital in south‑east London on Sunday afternoon. Officers pursued him but were unable to stop him before he disappeared from the hospital grounds.
This latest escape comes only days after he was recaptured by the Metropolitan Police following his first escape early last week. That initial break‑out occurred when he was under guard at West Middlesex University Hospital while receiving medical care; he managed to slip away from prison staff and was at large for about a day before being found at an address in south‑east London.
Boakye was originally jailed in 2023 and was due to be deported to Ghana after completing part of his sentence. He was convicted for a series of knifepoint robberies in which he and others targeted victims during crimes involving cryptocurrency thefts. Authorities are now appealing for information from the public to help locate him after his second escape, saying he remains at large and should be considered dangerous.
The repeated breaks have raised serious questions about security procedures when prisoners are escorted outside prison facilities for medical treatment, with police and prison officials reviewing how Boakye managed to abscond twice in such a short period.
