Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has sparked fresh political debate after boldly declaring that he is ready to face Edwin Sifuna in an ODM nomination battle for the Nairobi Senate seat.
Speaking with confidence, Jalang’o stated that Sifuna stands no chance against him if they both decide to vie for the party ticket. According to the outspoken lawmaker, he believes he has built a strong political base in Nairobi that would easily carry him through the primaries.
“Sifuna hawezi nishinda kwa nomination za ODM. Tukienda nomination za kuwa senator nitamshinda na mbali sana,” Jalang’o said.
He further added that whether ODM goes into the 2027 elections alone or through a broad-based coalition, he is certain he will be the one carrying the ticket for the Senate race.
“Kitu najua either ikuwe ni ODM pekee ama Broadbased coalition, mimi ndio nitapeperusha hiyo ticket,” he insisted.
The remarks have ignited reactions among ODM supporters, with some backing Jalang’o’s confidence while others argue that Sifuna, who is currently the Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General, remains a formidable force within the party.
Political observers say the Nairobi Senate race could become one of the most competitive contests if both leaders decide to square it out in the nominations. For now, Jalang’o’s bold declaration has set the stage for what could be an intense political showdown within ODM.
