According to recently declassified intelligence, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is said to have successfully mediated a peace deal between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his former P.A., Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The move aims to consolidate the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Reports indicate that the initiative began last year during the Christmas holiday when Kalonzo and Uhuru were in Nigeria. They held a closed-door meeting facilitated by former African Union Chairperson and Nigerian former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The discussions reportedly focused on resolving tensions between Uhuru and Gachagua, creating a united front for the region.
As part of the agreement, Uhuru allegedly committed to letting go of past disagreements with Gachagua to strengthen political unity. He also reportedly offered his support for Kalonzo’s potential presidential bid, contingent on selecting former CS Fred Matiang’i as his running mate. Following this, Matiang’i met Gachagua in Karen last Thursday to finalize strategies, paving the way for a formal meeting between Gachagua and Uhuru, which KTN News reports is scheduled for mid-February.
The planned reconciliation is seen as a strategic political maneuver aimed at influencing the balance of power in Mount Kenya, signaling a potentially decisive shift in regional alliances ahead of 2027.
