The tragic death of Police Constable Abel Kivoto at Salama Police Station in Laikipia West has left his family in shock and demanding a full investigation. Kivoto was reportedly stabbed by a fellow officer, Victor Chesang, who also injured another colleague during the confrontation.
According to witnesses, the incident began when a report came in about a fight between two officers. Sergeant Wahome Muigai rushed to the scene and found Kivoto already lying motionless. In an effort to control the situation, Muigai confronted Chesang and sustained injuries in the process.
Chesang was subsequently arrested, disarmed, and taken into police custody as authorities urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue. Kivoto was declared dead at the scene, and his body has been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.
The officer’s family, particularly his wife Bessy Kimanzi, expressed deep grief over the shocking incident. Bessy explained that Kivoto had been called to the station to calm an off-duty officer who was causing a disturbance and had only recently returned to work when the fatal attack occurred.
“Abel was a devoted and compassionate man. His sudden loss has devastated our family,” Bessy said, urging the police to act swiftly and ensure justice is served.
Authorities have confirmed that a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Kivoto’s death is underway, with a postmortem examination expected to provide further details.
