Political commentator Nuru Okanga has praised the political awareness of the Luhya community, asserting that they are informed and understand the dynamics shaping the region’s leadership. Speaking during a public forum, Okanga dismissed claims that the community can be easily misled, highlighting their ability to analyze political developments critically.
He criticized former politicians, including Musalia Mudavadi, claiming that past decisions did not serve the community’s best interests. However, Okanga expressed confidence in Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, describing him as a leader capable of championing the region and safeguarding its political future. “We have one man, George Natembeya, and he will save us,” Okanga asserted, emphasizing the governor’s perceived commitment to the Luhya people.
The comments have drawn attention amid ongoing political debates within Western Kenya, with supporters of Natembeya applauding the endorsement, while critics question the generalization of political loyalty. Analysts note that such statements reflect the growing influence of regional leaders in shaping voter sentiment ahead of upcoming elections, highlighting the intersection of local identity and national politics.
