Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has criticized President William Ruto’s administration for what he termed as “shameful silence” over the abduction and mistreatment of Bob Njagi, a Kenyan citizen allegedly being held in Uganda under unclear circumstances.
Speaking during a public engagement, Matiang’i expressed deep concern over the government’s failure to intervene, questioning the credibility of a leadership that cannot protect its own citizens abroad.
“How can you call yourself a government when your citizens are arrested and mistreated in another country? Why is the government quiet on Bob Njagi’s case?” Matiang’i asked.
He emphasized that the protection of citizens should be a top priority for any responsible administration, adding that Kenya’s image on the international stage is being tainted by the current government’s inaction.
Matiang’i also warned that such negligence could encourage foreign nations to continue violating the rights of Kenyan citizens without fear of diplomatic consequences.
His statement has since ignited heated debate online, with many Kenyans demanding an official response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and calling for the immediate release or fair trial of Bob Njagi.
As the pressure mounts, Kenyans now await to see whether the Ruto government will step in to ensure justice for one of their own.
