Shock and grief have gripped the Catholic community in Meru following reports that a Catholic Sister has been arrested on suspicion of killing her fellow Nun.
According to police reports, detectives from the DCI in Meru have launched investigations after the body of Sister Kirimi was found lying in a pool of blood inside her room.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect had recently been replaced by the late Sister Kirimi as the administrator of a local children’s home located on the outskirts of Meru town.
Investigators believe that the 65-year-old Nun was murdered elsewhere before her body was dragged into her bedroom. Sources close to the probe suggest that rivalry over the administrative position at the children’s home may have led to the killing.
The suspect has since been placed in police custody as investigations continue, while the body of Sister Kirimi has been moved to the mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial arrangements.
This shocking incident has left many questioning the moral decay within religious institutions. Religious leaders are often expected to be role models of peace and humility, yet cases of conflict and violence among them continue to emerge — reminiscent of other tragic cases such as that of Pastor Paul Makenzi, who remains in custody over the Shakahola massacre.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and congregation of the late Sister Kirimi.
