In a distressing incident that has drawn national attention, a 20-year-old man, Guracha Hassan Garbole, is currently battling for his life in a Nanyuki hospital after allegedly being shot by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers. The incident occurred on the evening of August 31, 2025, at Golole trading centre in Karbururi location, Sololo sub-county, during the ongoing Ondoa Jangili security operation. According to witnesses, KDF soldiers stormed the centre and ordered the youths to surrender. In the ensuing confusion, Guracha attempted to flee but was reportedly gunned down.
Following the shooting, relatives claim that Guracha was blindfolded and forcibly placed into a vehicle, which transported him to Marsabit. There, he was allegedly handed over to individuals who identified themselves as Kenya Red Cross officials and subsequently abandoned at Moyale sub-county hospital. Notably, a sum of Ksh. 5,000 was left on his hospital bed before the group vanished. Due to the facility’s lack of essential drugs, Guracha was later transferred to Nanyuki for further treatment.
The family is now seeking justice, accusing the security personnel of unlawful conduct and brutality against an innocent civilian. Neither the Kenya Defence Forces nor the Kenya Red Cross has publicly commented on the allegations.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the conduct of security forces during operations and the need for accountability to prevent such occurrences in the future.
