Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on President William Ruto to personally address concerns involving former President Uhuru Kenyatta, rather than relying on allies to speak on his behalf.
Speaking on Sunday, May 4, Gachagua claimed that recent public criticisms aimed at Uhuru were allegedly delivered under President Ruto’s direction through individuals close to him, including Farouk Kibet and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.
“I noticed that Farouk Kibet and MP Kimani Ichung’wah made strong remarks against former President Uhuru Kenyatta. If President Ruto has an issue with Uhuru, he should address it himself,” Gachagua said during a public address.
He further urged leaders to promote respect and avoid divisive language, especially in regions like Mt. Kenya. Gachagua stated that residents in the area had shown restraint during Ruto’s past visits and cautioned against provoking them with repeated attacks on their leaders.
On Saturday, May 3, during a public function in West Pokot, Farouk Kibet criticized the former president, accusing him of interfering with the current administration and inciting unrest. Farouk urged Uhuru to give President Ruto the same space to govern that he was accorded during his tenure.
“He was given ten years to lead the country. Now, he should allow the current leadership to do the same without interference,” Farouk remarked.
Other Kenya Kwanza leaders including Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, MPs Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), and Nelson Koech (Belgut) have also recently commented critically on Uhuru Kenyatta’s role in current national affairs.
