“I spent Ksh.200K On Her ” How Naftali Is Serving 40 Years Jail Term For Killing IVy With An Axe

In April 2019, a heartbreaking incident occurred at Moi University, Eldoret, leaving many shocked and saddened. A long-time friendship between Ivy Wangeci and Naftali Kinuthia ended in tragedy, ultimately leading to a lengthy prison sentence.

According to reports, Ivy and Naftali had known each other since their primary school days. They grew up as close friends and maintained their bond through the years. As adults, Naftali pursued a career in business, establishing an electronics shop in Nairobi, while Ivy was studying medicine at Moi University.

Over time, Naftali developed deeper feelings for Ivy. Despite his efforts to support her financially and emotionally, Ivy reportedly made it clear that she preferred to remain just friends. Close friends and witnesses later testified in court that the two had never been romantically involved.

Tensions grew when Naftali expressed a desire to be more than friends. According to witnesses, Ivy’s polite rejection didn’t sit well with him. Eventually, their friendship became strained, and Ivy reportedly began distancing herself.

The situation escalated tragically on 9th April 2019, just a day before Ivy’s birthday. Naftali traveled from Nairobi to Eldoret after contributing to her planned birthday expenses. Upon arriving, a confrontation occurred between the two near Ivy’s residence. In a moment of rage, Naftali attacked Ivy, leading to her untimely death.

The community quickly responded, and Naftali was subdued by bystanders before being handed over to the police. He was treated in hospital before facing legal action.

During the court proceedings, Naftali admitted to the act and expressed remorse. However, investigators concluded that the incident was premeditated, and the weapon involved had been brought along intentionally. In 2023, the High Court found Naftali guilty and sentenced him to 40 years in Kamiti Maximum Prison.

This tragic event not only cut short Ivy’s promising future in medicine but also changed the course of Naftali’s life forever. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of managing emotions, respecting personal boundaries, and seeking help when facing emotional distress.
