Kenyan University Student’s Heartbreaking Revelation: Lecturer Allegedly Infects Her with HIV in Exchange for Grades

A Kenyan university student from one of the country’s most renowned and celebrated institutions caused an online stir after sharing her harrowing story. The revelation, posted on Betty Wahome’s page, shed light on how her lecturer allegedly infected her with HIV during an inappropriate relationship driven by the promise of academic success.

The student disclosed that she often skipped classes, which eventually put her academic progress at risk. One day, a lecturer assigned coursework and requested that students submit their assignments personally to him, one at a time. It was during this interaction that he noticed her irregular attendance and pointed out that she was on the verge of failing the unit.

According to university rules, attendance is a critical part of qualification, and her frequent absences made her emotional about her dire situation. Sensing her desperation, the lecturer offered her a way out: he would ensure she passed the unit, but only if she agreed to an intimate relationship with him. Feeling cornered, the young woman consented.

Their relationship escalated quickly. After their initial encounter, her grades improved drastically, and she even became the class representative—a position that further boosted her academic standing. That evening, they engaged again, and she described the experience as captivating, even calling the lecturer’s “performance” impressive.

However, two months later, while on her attachment program, she began experiencing unusual symptoms. Concerned, she sought medical attention and received the devastating news that she was HIV positive. Shocked and distraught, she reached out to the lecturer—the only person she had been intimate with for eight months—only to discover that he had blocked her.

This marked the beginning of her journey as a person living with HIV, a painful consequence of a relationship born out of desperation and exploitation.
