At least seven people lost their lives on Saturday, August 9, following a grisly road accident at Korompoi along the Isinya–Namanga highway in Kajiado County.
The fatal crash occurred when a matatu collided head-on with a lorry, leaving both vehicles extensively damaged. Witnesses say the impact was so severe that several passengers died on the spot, while others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to assist the injured and ferry the bodies to the mortuary. Traffic on the busy highway was temporarily disrupted as authorities worked to clear the wreckage.
Preliminary reports suggest that speeding and possible loss of control may have contributed to the accident, although investigations are still ongoing. Kajiado County traffic officers have since urged motorists to observe speed limits and exercise caution, especially along the stretch of road where the incident happened, which has become a notorious black spot.
The tragedy has plunged families into mourning and once again highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
